Power Gaming

Power gaming is defined as exploiting items or systems to gain an advantage. You should be prepared to lose. RP is a give and take, so you should be prepared that storylines, situations, and interactions might not go the way you intended.

Metagaming

Using outside knowledge, such as Twitch Streams, to locate players and become part of storylines in a way that isn’t organic to RP. Players who wish to find a group to RP with should use #RP-with-Me in Discord. \

Bleed

Keep RP inside the server and OOC (out of character) within Discord. If you need time to cool down after an intense session of RP, please walk away before discussing it with your scene partner(s). In-game relationships are not real relationships. This is not high school theater, and you don’t really love him just because he played Romeo. The rival gang is not mad at you, they’re mad at your character. Communication with your scene partner is important; take time to walk away, regroup, and then feel free to reach out in Discord or DMs to say, “are you okay?” or similar. It is completely acceptable to say “I need a moment before I can discuss that.”

Fail RP

You can RP your way out of or into situations, but fail RP occurs when you refuse to RP. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel personally OOC uncomfortable, you should do your best to RP your way out of the situation. Also, communicate with your scene partner. It is okay to do a /me “/me looks absolutely and completely uncomfortable”, or provide clear dialogue that you are uncomfortable and wish to move the RP in a different direction. Although we generally discourage the use of Discord during RP, in some situations, it is important to DM a scene partner if you need to shut down the RP.

Value Your Life

Make choices that would preserve your life. Task risks for sure, but you also need to be considering how lethal a fall may actually be, or that ramp you just took your car over may actually impact your spine from the vehicle bottoming out. (Needs better wording.)

Off-Limits RP

Rape, Ablist portrayal of disabilities, Racism, Abuse (physical, mental, sexual), it can be mentioned as past trauma, but not played out as occurring actively in RP.\

Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

Talk to your fellow RPers. Discuss ideas and scenarios. Don’t plan them down to the details, but working together builds better stories and helps avoid conflicts. “I’m not comfortable being a part of that.” is an acceptable response to any situation that is proposed. Consider larger RP scenarios as “outlines”, “I’d like to escalate the Ballas and the Vagos gang war tonight. Are you down for that?” instead of “I’m going to roll up on you tonight at 8pm in Legion Square”\ We understand that communication comes with some IC information being shared OOC. Please be respectful. We are working on a bulletin board/MDT system in order for information to be shared; however, if you are not directly involved in a situation, use of information from these sources will be considered Powergaming.\

How to Handle Moderation Issues

Moderation is not your mom. Moderation is not your therapist.
Moderation reports should be submitted via #ticket and will show up publicly.  Moderation reports are exclusively for in-game rules breaks and do not pertain to OOC/bleed behaviors. If you are being bullied, harassed, or if you feel uncomfortable with persistent behavior that you’ve already tried to address with the person in question, please contact a Moderator via DM. In-Character or Out of Character, you should reach out to the individual you were RPing with to resolve the issue like adults.

Medical RP

Serious and Terminal Illness

Injuries should always be treated with respect to the injury itself. GTA is a fickle beast, so sometimes freak game things happen and MD will treat a non-RP injury. Most injuries, however, should be treated as RP injury. Similarly, as someone who is injured, you are in control of your RP, do your best to communicate with MD about the extent of your injury.  Serious illnesses might include: coma. You do not walk out of a hospital the day after waking up from a coma. Terminal illness is fatal. Period. If you are RPing a terminal illness, you must be prepared to perma that character.

Pyschology/Mental Health

RP is not a therapy tool and players are not qualified to handle serious mental illness. We are an inclusive and diverse community, dealing with mental illness is something many of us struggle with, so we do not want anyone to feel as though mental health RP is off limits, you may be dealing with mental health as a character, but please keep it in RP. It is acceptable to RP that you are in therapy, have sought psychiatric treatment, take medication currently or in the past. Roleplaying serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, D.I.D, etc. are not permitted.\

Abelist RP

Having your character RP as being blind or deaf (with admin permission as VC is required) is permitted, however, using that disability as “Walks around clumsily” or “Talks to plants because he thinks they’re people.” is disrespectful towards people with genuine disabilities.

Off-Limits Medical RP

• Serious drug and alcohol addiction
• Pregnancy - There are no kids in GTA:V, so there is only one way that it can end.
• Suicide - Due to the extremely sensitive nature of suicide, we do not allow this type of RP. There are plenty of ways to kill off your character without suicide.\

Perma

Perma is when your character permanently dies. Perma is by definition permanant and can not be taken back. Your character can not be resurrected. Perma should be taken extremely seriously, as it means ending all storylines you’re involved in, which does effect other players.

ERP - Erotic Roleplay

Definition: Sexually explicit “closed door” sexual situations, or erotic voice chats.
As the definition suggests, these situations should be “behind closed doors” away from other RPers that do not wish to view/engage in this type of RP. All ERP scenarios must be consensual among all involved. This does not extend to discussions of sex, sexual acts, sexual behaviors. GTA:V is rated M for “mature”, so understand that sex and sexual situations can be mentioned, discussed, joked about etc. around other RPers. If these discussions are not RP you wish to be around, we ask that you RP your way out of the situations. \

Player vs Player

​

Robbing an individual

Our current robbery mechanic allows for player vs player robberies; however, when this happens, the person’s inventory will be completely visible, and because of this, what you take from the inventory requires verbal consent. Example: “Give me your wallet!” “Please! It’s my last $15”. Items not mentioned in a robbery exchange are not considered visible to you as a character and should not be used as information your character knows.

Drive by shootings

Drive-by shootings must be pre-arranged and consensual. You do not need to say exactly when and where, but they should always be previously agreed upon and discussed amongst the gangs.

RDM

Random Death Match - Attacking another player physically, with a weapon or with a vehicle. This is considered powergaming because the player does not have time to react and has not consented to the RP. Performing a Drive By without the other groups’ knowledge that the “RP beef” has escalated can result in RDM so please ensure you have mutually discussed the escalation of gang play.

Supernatural Roleplay

We would like to encourage players to tell creative stories, therefore, we are allowing Supernatural characters within this world, However, supernatural does not mean invincible. Supernatural characters, as with all characters, should have strengths, weaknesses, and in particular with Supernatural characters, generally a “fatal flaw’ such as vampires needing to have a regular supply of blood, or werewolves going rogue during a full moon.

How does it apply to medical RP?

Your character might be supernatural, however, that is not an excuse to ignore or disregard medical RP. All Supernatural characters must retain the ability to be injured and die.

Safe Word

The safe word is BANGARANG Whenever a roleplay situation becomes overwhelming or uncomfortable, the safe word can be used to immediately exit the situation. All involved parties must honor the safe word and leave the scene immediately.
